Rainbow Dash is one of the characters in the animated series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, and its derivative works, produced by Hasbro. She represents the "Loyalty" in the Elements of Harmony.
Rainbow Dash is a Pegasus who likes to exceed the speed limit since she was a child. She most hopes to join the Equestria's "Wonderbolts" team, and successfully joins it in later episodes. Once she competed with three boys who laughed at her and Fluttershy, and she soon got rid of them, and even made the legendary Sonic Rainboom. That miraculous Sonic Rainboom inspired the other five ponies to gain their cutie marks.
In the second episode of the first season, Rainbow Dash and other ponies are looking for the Elements of Harmony. On the way, the corrupted Princess Luna "Nightmare Moon" tries to trick her into abandoning her companions and joining Luna's "Shadowbolts". Rainbow Dash rejected her because she could not abandon her companions, and the "loyalty" in the Elements of Harmony also found its new owner. Since then, Rainbow Dash and her friends have defeated many villains with the magic of friendship.
Rainbow Dash is the fastest in Ponyville and the entire Equestria. In the sixteenth episode of the first season, Rainbow Dash, who has been practicing for a long time, once again made a sonic rainbow boom in front of many people. After becoming famous, she realized her dream of joining the "Wonderbolts" in the seventh episode of the third season, although she was only a student. But her control was not so good. In the first episode of Season 1, Twilight Sparkle meets Rainbow Dash by having Rainbow Dash fall on her. The sixteenth episode of the second season broke his own wings at the beginning. Therefore, she got the nickname "Rainbow Crash" , which she hated at first. Judging from Rainbow Dash's memories in the seventh episode of Season 6, this nickname came to Rainbow Dash as early as her childhood. It was given to her by Hoops, At that time, Rainbow Dash accidentally hit her head into a trash can while flying.
Lauren Faust, the character designer of the fourth generation of My Little Pony, has been a long-time fan of ponies since she was a child. She once drew fanart of the first generation of ponies on deviantArt. Rainbow Dash’s character design is based on the Generation 1 pony Firefly.[1] Firefly is the protagonist of G1's first 22-minute short film Rescue at Midnight Castle, and is also Lauren's favorite character. Lauren's Twitter and DA account "fyre_flye" is also a variation of Firefly's name.[2] Rainbow Dash’s appearance design comes from a G3/3.5 earth pony, also named Rainbow Dash. But this earth pony has a very different personality from Rainbow Dash in G4. She doesn't like taking risks, but is keen on fashion. The lyrics of G3's theme song also include "Rainbow Dash's always dressing in style" to express this. To this day, this lyric is still occasionally used to poke fun at Rainbow Dash when she is wearing fancy clothes.
Lauren originally planned to use Firefly's name and appearance, but the name of the original pony character had been registered as a trademark by other companies, and Hasbro could not continue to use it. Then the appearance of G3 Rainbow Dash and the personality of Firefly were slightly fused, and the current Rainbow Dash was born.

Rainbow Dash's parents, Bow Hothoof and Windy Whistles, appear in the seventh episode of Season 7, marking the first time that Rainbow Dash's family appears on the show. In the previous six seasons, Rainbow Dash's family had not been depicted in any episode. Hasbro have also changed their response to a range of related issues.
Lauren Faust once mentioned her thoughts about Rainbow Dash's parents on Ponychan and on her own Twitter in 2013:
In the twelfth episode of Season 3, in Rainbow Dash's memory of Cloudsdale's bid to host the Equestrian Games, she was sitting on the head of a male Pegasus. The Pegasus had the same rainbow-colored mane as Rainbow Dash, and his cutie mark also had a rainbow pattern. He later appeared briefly at the end of Season 6, Episode 8, but his name was never mentioned in the episode. According to some related product descriptions, his name is Rainbow Blaze. This design and name make many people think that this is Rainbow Dash's father. Later, a trading card designer at Enterplay express said that Rainbow Blaze is Rainbow Dash's father.
Later in 2014, IDW Pony Comics author Ted Anderson explained the family relationships of the protagonist group as follows:
This line is considered to be an implicit reference to Rainbow Blaze, who appears in Rainbow Dash's flashback in Season 3, as her father.
However, screenwriter Jim Miller made the exact opposite statement in a tweet in 2016:
At the 2016 Equestrian Convention in Poland, pony character designer Kora Kosicka responded to a question about Rainbow Dash's parents and responded to Rainbow Blaze:
In September of the same year, Enterplay's official Twitter, which once admitted that Rainbow Blaze was Rainbow's father, also clarified:
So far, the identity of Rainbow Blaze as her father has been completely denied. At the same time, Hasbro also revealed that Rainbow Dash's parents will appear in the seventh season. Rainbow Blaze is now recognized as Rainbow Dash's "dashing mentor". However, Bow Hothoof's appearance design is largely based on Rainbow Blaze.
Rainbow Dash's parents, who appeared in the seventh episode of Season 7, appear to be overly enthusiastic about supporting Rainbow Dash and often unintentionally embarrass her, resulting in a very delicate relationship between them and their daughter. With Scootaloo's help, the conflict between them was finally eliminated.
