Ye Qianyu
Ye Qianyu(1907~1995), old name Ye Lunqi, from Tonglu, Zhejiang Province, was accomplished in painting and art education. From 1929 to 1937, he completed long comic strips Mr. Wang and Unofficial History of Xiao Chen in Beijing, altogether about 500 groups. During the anti-Japanese War, Ye Qianye, together with Zhang Leping, organized a cartoon proganda team and acted as the team leader. He was also one of the leaders of the National Salvation Association of the Comics Circle. From 1941 to 1943, he produced some sketch cartoons and exhibited Chongqing in War and Painting of Tour to India. In 1946, he traveled in USA and produced a group of drawing, An Account of Heaven. In the early 1940s, influenced by Dunhuang and Indian art, he began to work on Chinese paintings. From 1949, he began to teach at China Central Academy of Fine Arts and acted as director of the Department of Chinese Paintings. He was also deputy chairman of Chinese Artists' Association. He is widely know at home and abroad for his extraordinary talents in cartoon, sketch and Chinese painting of dancing figures. His representative works include Chinese paintings, Unity of Chinese Nations, Dance with Red Ribbon, New Drawings of Living in Fuchun Mountain and illustrations, Midnight, Teahoues.
