The loose side-tail (Japanese: ルーズサイドテール) refers specifically to a hairstyle and a moe point in ACGN subculture.
Introduction
The prototype is horse French style braiding. In anime creation, braided hair may be difficult to draw, so braids are often not drawn. It is generally formed by a loose side low ponytail placed in front, and part of it is a braid (the difference between a braid and a true ponytail lies in the degree of connection at the beginning of the braid).
Characters with this hairstyle are usually a supporting character closely related to the protagonist. They are usually killed off soon after appearing, either to stimulate the protagonist's fighting spirit or advance the development of the plot. This hairstyle rarely appears on the protagonist.
Even if such a character doesn't die immediately, there is no guarantee that he or she will survive in the future. Some authors will use this hairstyle to hint to the audience that the character may be in danger.
However, just because it is called "dead anime mom hair" does not mean the character will die. Some characters are still alive and well even with such a hairstyle. This situation mostly occurs in works with lighter themes such as school life, slice-of-life and comedy.
