The Spyro series is a platformer video game series developed by Insomniac Games, The first game in the series, Spyro the Dragon, was released on the PlayStation in 1998, developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment. Currently, the series is owned by Activision after purchasing the rights to the character in 2007.

History

Almost all of the games take place in the Dragon World, which is divided into five realms: Artisans, Peace Keepers, Magic Crafters, Beast Makers, and Dream Weavers. Spyro lives in the Artisan's World. The Dragon Realm is constantly threatened, and Spyro must protect it from evil. There is also a sixth realm, which is the home of Gnasty Gnorc.

Spyro's popularity reached a notable height, creating two separate series, each in a different universe and starring a reimagined version of Spyro: One is The Legend of Spyro, a more dramatic reboot, and the Skylanders series.[1]

Spyro is one of the iconic characters of the PlayStation alongside Crash Bandicoot; Spyro and Crash also traveled to each other's worlds and fought together sometimes.
