J.A.R.V.I.S. is a character in Marvel Comics. He is the artificial intelligence who assists Tony Stark, and first appeared in the 2008 movie Iron Man.

Introduction

In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), J.A.R.V.I.S. is the artificial intelligence that operates all around Stark's mansion in Malibu. It is similar to a virtual assistant, taking care of home appliances and helping Stark out. He was named after Edwin Jarvis, who was the butler of Tony's father Howard Stark.

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, he was attacked by Ultron's A.I., his matrix was then incorporated inside the body of the synthoid Vision to help the Avengers fight Ultron.

In the comics

First introduced in Issue #11 of The Invincible Iron Man Vol.2 (2009), J.A.R.V.I.S., was created by Tony and modeled after Edwin Jarvis, the butler of the Avengers. Originally, J.A.R.V.I.S. was to be of assistance to Pepper Potts, who now was a superheroine of her own: her name was Rescue. However, J.A.R.V.I.S. started to fall in love with Pepper, and even kidnapped her (J.A.R.V.I.S. was operating Rescue's suit). But Iron Man (Tony Stark) found out, and managed to shut him down.

He was the second A.I. created by Tony; the first was Friday.
