Shanghai Characters License Administrative Co, Ltd., or SCLA for short, is a Chinese copyright/brand (IP) licensing agency.

Introduction

SCLA is a copyright (copyright) agency located in Shanghai, China. The business scope of the company's industrial and commercial registration includes intellectual property agency, animation design, enterprise management consulting, etc., and mainly engages in the introduction of various international (Japanese) IP contents, product introduction, commercialization authorization, offline activity authorization, game authorization and other businesses.


In December 2001, its predecessor, Shanghai Century Huachuang Cultural Image Management Co., Ltd., was established with the approval of the Propaganda Department of the Shanghai Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China. It was formally established in April 2002. It was established by Shanghai Century Publishing (Group) Co., Ltd., OAKS Co., Ltd., and Shanghai Xinhui. Culture and Entertainment (Group) Co., Ltd. holds shares and is a state-owned company. The former representative director of Bandai Japan Co., Ltd. Sugiura Kosho is the chairman, and the former BANDAI Asia strategy consultant, first director of OAKS Co., Ltd., and chairman of the supervisory board of Guangdong Jintian Animation Co., Ltd. Sun Jian is the director (now the general manager of SCLA). Among the directors are Yu Chunde (before October 2014), who was then a director of Shanghai Century Publishing Co., Ltd., and Gu Qin, the current chairman of Shanghai Xinhui Original Culture Technology Co., Ltd., and others.

In 2004, Ultraman Tiga was introduced to Mainland China by SCLA. Since then, the company has started to operate the copyright of all Ultraman film and television works in Mainland China.[note 1] In 2005, "Anime Action" magazine was founded by SCLA. In 2009, SCLA became the sole agent of the animation Chibi Maruko-chan. In April 2011, SCLA became the general agent of commercialization of the anime Detective Conan and in March 2012, it became the general agent of the IP's film and television broadcasting (that is, it has since become the general agent of the IP). In December 2012, SCLA became the general agent of Neon Genesis Evangelion IP.

In June 2014, SCLA was established in Shanghai Free Trade Zone by Shanghai Shizheng Enterprise Management Consulting Co., Ltd. (controlled by Sun Jian and others), and has no state-owned assets. In 2018, Shanghai Century Huachuang Cultural Image Management Co., Ltd. was cancelled, and the IP it represented was continued to be represented by the new company.

In November 2014, SCLA became the general agent of the IP of "Piapro Characters" (Hatsune Miku, Kagamine Rin & Len, etc.). In November 2014, SCLA obtained the information network dissemination rights of the anime Inuyasha. In December 2015, SCLA became the general agent of Inuyasha IP. In July 2016, SCLA became the general agent of Fukigen na Mononokean. In September 2016, SCLA became the copyright agent for the anime Kaiju Girls. In March 2017, SCLA became the general agent of KING OF PRISM. In April 2017, SCLA became the information network communication rights agent of the anime ID-0. In October 2017, SCLA became the copyright agent of LoveLive! Sunshine!! (part of the series, part of the project). In July 2018, SCLA introduced and held a "Studio Ghibli Exhibition". In October 2018, SCLA became the general agent of SSSS.GRIDMAN IP. In the same month, SCLA became the copyright agent of the Kamen Rider series (part of the content) (TV series, films and derivative products, toys excluded). In December 2018, SCLA introduced the Studio Ghibli movie My Neighbor Totoro. In October 2019, SCLA became the general copyright agent of Kamio Japan's KumanChuChu and A Clockwork Truffe. In August 2021, SCLA became the copyright agent of Dinosaur War Corps Koseidon.

The general agent does not mean that the company will follow up the copyright introduction of all works of its IP in real time, nor does it mean that it will definitely represent all the contents of the IP.
