Blizzard Entertainment is an influential global entertainment software developer and publisher. Since its foundation in 1994, the company quickly became a popular and respected computer game developer. It has a number of influential game franchises.

It is part of the greater company Activision Blizzard King.

Company history

1991

Silicon & Synapse, founded in 1991 by Allen Adham, co-founded by Michael Morhaime, President and CEO, and Frank Pearce, Executive Vice President. RPM Racing was the first game developed by the company.

1993

Lost Vikings and Rock 'n Roll Racing are released. The company wins the "Software Developer of the Year" award by VideoGames Magazine.

The company chaanged its name to Chaos Studios. At the end of 1993, 11 products were released. The company moved to 4 different offices, the company grew to 11 members.

1994

Davidson & Associates buys Chaos Studios. The company's name is changed to Blizzard Entertainment. Warcraft: Orkcs and Men was the first game released under the name of Blizzard Entertainment.

1996

Warcraft 2 is released.

Davidson & Associates is acquired by CUC International, Inc.

Warcraft 2 sold 1.2 million units, and became the best-seller PC game of 1996.

Warcraft: Battle Chest is released.

1997

CUC International and HFS Incorporated are incorporated into Cendant.

1998

Cendant is acquired by Blizzard, and Sierra On-Line is sold to Havas, the company was later acquired by Vivendi and merged into Vivendi Games.
