Sierra Entertainment was a former video game developer from the United States.

History

Sierra was founded in 1979 as On-Line Systems, and it originally created software for computers at the time. In 1980, On-Line Systems' first game, Mystery House, was released.

The company changed its name to Sierra On-Line in 1982, until coming to the current name in 1988. The company was sold to CUC International in 1996, and in 2004, the company was later acquired by Vivendi Games. In 2008, Sierra was dissolved, and its old IPs were absorbed by Activision Blizzard. The Sierra brand returned in 2014, included in re-releases of some of the company's old games.
