Hero Inside (Korean: 히어로 인사이드) is a 2023 South Korean superhero animated series created by CJ ENM, Million Volt Animation, and YGG Drazil Studio. It premiered on November 8, 2023.

Synopsis

One day, the Scott Comics, mysterious comic books which can summon superheroes into reality, scatter all over San Francisco. People who come into possession of these comics begin to fight using the powers of the heroes for various reasons. The story unfolds when 13-year-old Mike finds one of these comics, "Crying Man", and accidentally summons Crying Man into existence.

Characters

Civilians

Mike
The main character. A 13-year-old boy who gets a free copy of a "Crying Man" comic from the comic store "Phantom Zone" thanks to his close friend Nick, and ends up bringing Crying Man to the real world. Aside from the fact that he started working as a hero against his will, he possesses a sense of justice and good heart, such as when he personally helped a friend who was being bullied by Diego, or desperately persuading and rehabilitating a friend who was blinded by revenge and was about to harm someone. He has a crush on Lucy and has a delusional imagination, so he has all kinds of delusions whenever they meet. However, in episode 9, Lucy's true identity is revealed and they start working together as heroes.
Nick
Mike's best friend. He negotiates for Mike at a comic book store and gets a free copy of the Crying Man comic. He has a cheerful personality, unlike Mike. His passion and interest in heroes are even stronger than Mike's, but he lacks the imagination to use Scott Comics, so he cannot summon heroes directly. Instead, he helps Mike and Lucy in terms of information, such as figuring out the specific operating principles and connections between Scott Comics, the heroes, and the owners of the comics, and investigating the unidentified vigilante disturbances occurring at school.
Lucy / X
A female student who goes to the same school as Mike and Nick. In episode 1, Mike fell in love with her at first sight and has a one-sided crush on her. However, he is obsessed with his fantasies that pop up out of nowhere and makes mistakes with his words. Rather than becoming close, he is gradually building up a bad image of her. However, in episode 8, Mike saves Lucy. When she secretly worked as X, her only objective was collecting the comics and cared little about what happened to her surroundings. However, she later reveals her identity to Nick, and becomes Mike and Nick's ally. She's later revealed to be the niece of Scott, the creator of the Scott Comics, and that she collected comic books in order to find the whereabouts of her uncle.
Tara Tyler
Nick's mother.
Kirbinson
An elderly lady who likes to grow plants in her garden. It seems that she tends the garden to relieve her loneliness because her family members are often out working. Whether or not they know about this feeling, her family members prevent her from doing this, saying that she should not overwork herself when she is old. When her family is away, she summons the comic book hero Mr. Justice and asks him to tend the garden.
Doctor Tennyson
A psychologist who summons Professor Z to counsel people. As his job causes him stress, he relies heavily on Professor Z's mental abilities.
Scott
The founder and creator of Scott Comics. A writer who had created 100 comic books that could bring the heroes inside them to life through the power of imagination, no matter how he used them. Judging from the positive reactions of Crying Man and Black Knight to Scott in the story, and Sylph's testimony that he said his power should only be used on bad people, he seems to be a good person by nature, and it seems that he summoned heroes every time he created a comic and had a sincere conversation. He is actually Lucy's uncle, who often visited Lucy and talked to her about comic books, which helped to develop his niece's imagination, but he broke up with Lucy because of her father and disappeared. Then, shortly before the events of the series, he sent a letter to Lucy, and in the letter he left for his niece, he advised her that comic books should never fall into the hands of evil people, and left behind a Great Finger comic for her.
Timo
A young boy who loves playing video games. His summoned hero is Jelly King, and he used him to deal with criminals who cheated in his favorite game.

Antagonists

Dirk O.
One of the people with the ability to summon heroes from Scott Comics. He is a geek who has been living off his mother's house even as an adult. He is targeting Crying Man, who was captured during a fire, and calls Nick to his mother's house. While interrogating him by using Mummy Girl to confine him in the basement and telling him to bring him the comics, he first encounters Mike, who came to retrieve Nick. At that time, he mentions an organization called the 'Council of Comics' that makes comic heroes work for them and asks to join, but when he is rejected, he engages in a hero battle with Mike. He assembles the Council of Comics by gathering together his colleagues who are also geeks and giving them Scott Comics so they can use the heroes' powers to "get revenge on the world".
Crestar
A former mixed martial arts fighter who was kicked out after being revealed to be involved in match-fixing.
Super Scott
A character who first appeared at the end of episode 6 of season 1 and made her full appearance in episode 7. He travels with Cynthia, an old woman in a wheelchair, and as her name suggests, he has a deep relationship with Scott Comics. He is capable of sending heroes back to their comic books of origin by force. He is actually the first comic character created by Scott Weller, the founder of Scott Comics, and his niece, Lucy. He is a hero created by Lucy based on her uncle.

Scott Comics Heroes

Superheroes from comic books that can be summoned to the real world using the power of imagination. When the appropriate user holds the book and shouts out the name of the corresponding hero, they will pop out of the book and be able to act in reality, powered by the user's imagination energy. Each hero summoned in this way has their own unique special ability, and will gladly perform any task at the command of the comic book owner, from simple gardening to running errands, and even theft and fighting. Most of the main action in this work is battle scenes between these superheroes summoned by the comic book owners.

Crying Man
The first hero that Mike summoned. His powers involve tears. He does not simply use the "Tear Blast" for attacks, but rather uses it to fly high into the sky with water pressure like a water jet and move quickly, or to safely land a truck that falls from the sky by spraying a large amount of tears on the ground. He is a veteran hero with a high level of understanding of his abilities and considerable ability to utilize them. As a kind of water attribute user, he boasts powerful firefighting abilities at fire scenes, just like the firefighter he so desperately wanted to become. He has a strong bond with Mike.
Gravity
He looks like an astronaut wearing an orange suit. He has a long scar that runs from above his left eyebrow to below his lip. He takes great pride in his ability to control gravity, and he is very talkative and boastful.
Great Finger
A superhero whose design is inspired by Mexican luchadors. He uses various flashy wrestling techniques as his appearance suggests, and despite his large and dull appearance, he is very agile. He was X's main hero throughout Season 1, but in Season 2, he was stolen from X by Christa and ended up in the hands of Super Scott.
Black Knight
A braggart owl hero who is afraid of light and is mostly active at night. He has a variety of weapons and the ability to rotate his neck 360 degrees. He seems to be based on Batman.
Lucky
A muscular poodle hero with purple skin and white fur. As can be guessed from his muscular body, he possesses great strength and superhuman athleticism, and uses his sharp teeth and claws as weapons. Instead of human speech, he can only make growling sounds, and judging from his appearance on the cover of a comic book where he is obsessed with a toy ball, unlike other humanoid heroes, this one feels like an animal that has gained superpowers.
Mummy Girl
A mummy superheroine who can use the bandages in her body in a similar way to Spider-Man's webs. However, she is afraid to reveal her face, which is also covered in bandages. Originally, she was a hero that Dirk O. acquired in episode 2 through Black Knight, but in episode 4, after a fight between Mike and Dirk O., Dirk O. was defeated and she became one of Mike's heroes along with Black Knight.
Sparkules
A hero who uses lightning. His name is a combination of the word "Spark" and Hercules. He calls himself the son of Zeus, but Zeus himself says that he is not his son. His power can act as an ignition device, such as breaking an electric gun or sending a current through a highly conductive object to explode it.
Disco Duo
A pair of disco dancers who wear afros and flashy sunglasses. The woman is called Boogie and the man is called Woogie, and they work together, using a technique called "Disco Beam", that fires a beam from a disco ball. The opponent who is hit by the beam is forced to dance disco nonstop for about half a day.
Mr. Justice
A superhero who tends to the garden that Kirbinson cherishes. In addition, Kirbinson has described Mr. Justice as the guardian of the garden and her best friend.
Professor Z
He is a psychic with a large jewel-shaped stone on his head, and can share people's psychology and thoughts, or create memories in the form of images using a technique called "Memory Glow". It's not just simple memories, but he can also find forgotten memories and memories of fleeting moments, and while it may seem like he doesn't have any special attack techniques, he can subdue his opponents with a technique called "Nightmare Rise", which reminds them of their trauma and inflicts mental pain.
Jelly King
Hummingbird Man
Sylph
A green-skinned female heroine who looks like a fantasy spirit. She has the skill "Wind of Spirit", which allows her to freely control the wind. She has a free-spirited personality like the wind, and was in the Phantom Zone, the general store where Mike and Nick bought the Crying Man comics.
Sugar Sugar Pangpang
A magical girl whose motif is fruits. She can use a technique called "Juicy Pop Fruit Beam", which turns objects into fruit when hit by the light emitted from her magic wand.
