Career
Weekend ran away from home with friends over a weekend at the age of 17 and took the stage name "weekend", changing the spelling of weekend to "weeknd" to avoid a trademark issue with the Canadian band The Weekend.
In late 2010, The Weeknd started uploading some songs on YouTube.
In 2011, The Weeknd released three mixtapes: "House of Balloons", "Thursday", and "Echoes of Silence", which were critically acclaimed. The following year, he released a three-mixtape compilation, Trilogy.
