Wario is a character in the Mario and Wario video game series created by Nintendo.

Introduction

He was designed by Hiroji Kiyotake, and his first appearance was in Super Mario Land 2 for the Game Boy, where he took over Mario's castle. The following game, Wario Land: Super Mario Land 3, made him the protagonist and spawned the Wario Land series.

In Wario Land games, he usually travels around many places to find treasure and money, but he ends up defeating evil creatures, such as when he fought the Genie freed by Captain Syrup, or when battling the clown Rudy inside the Music Box World. Also, in this series, he is shown living in a castle, which he got after the Genie granted his wish.

Originally, his power-ups worked similarly to Mario's; hitting blocks with special items inside that would give him powers, but later he gained them while being hit by enemies, since the Wario Land games (except for Wario Land 4) don't have a "life counter", and you only lose if you run out of money.

In the WarioWare series, Wario lives in Diamond City as the president of the game company WarioWare, Inc., where he creates "microgames".

Personality

He is presented to be Mario's greatest rival, and he is jealous of him. He is greedy, loves money and treasure, and eating garlic.

Notes

  1. Since Wario's eyes are very small, the irises seem black at a distance, however, zooming the image reveals that they are actually blue.
  2. In some commercials
  3. In some of the Nintendo 64 games in Japan.
