May is a character in the Pokémon series developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo, and its derivative works.

Introduction

She is the female protagonist of the games Pokémon Ruby Version/Pokémon Sapphire Version and Pokémon Emerald Version, and its Generation VI remakes Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire.

If the player chooses a male character at the beginning, then May will appear as the daughter of Professor Birch, becoming a strong opponent.

In the Pokémon spin-off manga Pokémon Adventures, she is the basis for the character of Sapphire, and she also appears in the anime Pokémon Advanced.

Character song

In the Japanese version of the Pokémon anime, her character song, "Watashi, Makenai!" (私、負けない!) is sung by her voice actress, KAORI.

History in the games

Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald

If May is the main character, she would move from Johto to the Hoenn region. She meets Brendan in Route 103, and gets a Poké Ball from Professor Birch along with either Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip. After a series of journeys in which she collects the eight gym badges, and fights against villainous teams, she becomes a champion.

History in the anime

In Pokémon Advanced

May is the daughter of Norman, the gym owner in Petalburg City, and Max's big sister. She travels with Ash Ketchum as a trainer.

In Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl

May went to the Sinnoh Region to participate in the Wallace Cup, she advanced all the way to the final, but lost to Dawn. After that, she returned to Johto.
