Touhou Project (東方プロジェクト, とうほうぷろじぇくと), also known as Toho Project or Project Shrine Maiden, is a series of Japanese danmaku and fighting video games. It is developed by the single-person Team Shanghai Alice, whose sole member is ZUN. ZUN produces most of the games' graphics, music and programming.
Its own worldview, various characters with distinct personalities, carefully arranged geometric danmaku patterns, and varied styles of music designed for each character and every occasion are very popular among fans.
And because the producer ZUN has fewer restrictions on fanworks and looser management[1], many fans have produced a large number of doujin works for it, such as music, comics, novels, animations, illustrations, games, MAD, etc., Touhou has formed a wide variety of secondary creation trends. On Niconico, together with THE iDOLM@STER and VOCALOID, they are called "The Big Three". Up to now, the total playback volume of Touhou Projects related creation videos on Niconico has reached more than 4.5 billion, second only to the VOCALOID series.[2].
In October 2010, Touhou Project was certified by the Guinness Book of World Records as the "Most Prolific Fan-made Shooter Series"[3].
This page is the general introduction page of Touhou Project. For a detailed introduction to each Touhou work, character, and music albums, please click the corresponding links below.
Games developed by ZUN Soft/Team Shanghai Alice.
Touhou games for the PC-98 platform (the 1st to 5th works of the Touhou series) developed before the founding of Team Shanghai Alice, and are released under the name "ZUN Soft".
Due to the huge differences and inconsistencies between the characters and the background of the story with the later Windows version, and ZUN also expressed the hope that people will forget these five old works, the player group generally refers to these five works as "PC-98" series etc. Template:Touhou Project/PC-98 Games
Touhou games for the Windows platform, developed after establishment of Team Shanghai Alice.
In addition to danmaku shooting, game types include danmaku fighting and danmaku action. Some are co-produced with Twilight Frontier. Template:Touhou Project/Windows Games
Music CDs released by Team Shanghai Alice.
So far, ZUN has released a total of 9 albums under the name "ZUN's Music Collection" (10 albums plus 5.5 works). Each album contains re-arranged old tracks, especially from the PC-98 era, as well as new original tracks. Each album includes a bonus "story" written by ZUN himself. Among them, because in Michi no Hana, Michi no Tabi and Nijiiro no Septentrion only 3 tracks are included and no bonus stories are included, they are released as "Touhou 5.5" and "Touhou 9.5".
Starting from "蓮台野夜行 ~ Ghostly Field Club", ZUN used Hifuu Club in the album cover artwork, and the story written also focuses on the activities of the Hifuu Club. ZUN's Music Collection has also become the exclusive debut work of the Hifuu Club.

The game music in the album also includes unused tracks in the game, which are almost equivalent to the songs heard in the Music Room in Mystic Square[4] . The album of the danmaku fighting game OST contains the fighting game tracks re-composed by Twilight Frontier, and sometimes also includes some re-arranged tracks for each fighting game by ZUN. After Shinpiteki Gakkyokushu, ZUN invited some Touhou music circles to participate in the creation.
