Concerning files

I'm not sure about the current situation of files. It seems to me that they are directly uploaded to the english moepedia page, instead of shared with others language pages in moe commons. Would it be possible if we relink all files into moe commons? Many pictures on pages are unable to be shown. Eg, Girls' Frontline: Springfield.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken about this.

--Asakura Nemu (talk) 10:03, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

All files are uploading to the moe commons, you can click "View on MoeGirl Commons" button in file detail page.--虚研社箱推人/矢志不渝Cosecant (talk) 02:47, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
I would contend otherwise... Take File:Springfield_Private_dress.jpg as an example. It cannot be found in commons (yet, since I just uploaded it). P.S., Girls' Frontline: Springfield links to this photo (as can be seen in "File Usage") but the picture cannot be seen on the wiki page. Could you be so kind as to see if it is possible to fix it? --Asakura Nemu (talk) 03:29, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
I can see it now. Perhaps you did not upload this file correctly, or it may be due to network latency.--虚研社箱推人/矢志不渝Cosecant (talk) 06:15, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Issue has already been resolved on zh discussion board. The en site will retain its separate file system but users can use commons. ----Asakura Nemu (talk) 3:45, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Proposing a template for translated pages

About translated pages

I've just committed a page Mesugaki so that I can use it in my user page. The problem now is, I suck at translatingEnglish, and the article is barely readable, let alone coherent. So I stuck a Template:Langproblem in there.

The thing here is, I don't think the template was especially designed for this. That was probably for simple language problems. So I was thinking if anyone could write a template that can be hung to demonstrate that the page was directly adopted from another language version.

I think it could contain the following message and parameters:

  • A note telling readers that the page was directly translated;
  • Parameter: language version (choices from zh/ja), defaults zh;
  • Parameter: (optional) extern link to original page or name of original entry
  • Parameter: translation method (choices from 1/2/3/4), where numbers expand as follows:
    1->Manual
    2->Manual with Machine Assistance
    3->Machine with Manual Proofreading
    4->Machine
    I think this could default to 3 or 4, but since Machine translation is not allowed defaulting to 4 might cause confusion.
  • Invitation to edit page

I'm not familiar with templates so I was hoping someone else would be capable of doing this.

Web pages whose entire content is automatically generated by a program are not allowed in zhmoe, maybe you should consider the same standards.--KingChan / Fan of XY Production 02:58, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
It appears I have not made myself clear. I manually translated this page in concern. What I'm saying is, I am not learnt in translation, and cannot ensure my translations are coherent. The meaning of this template is: the page was translated from another language, instead of being originally writen in the language of this pedia (English). Thus I am discussing the probability of creating a specific template to warn the users: this page was translated, and may have misleading language.
I totally agree disallowing machine translated pages on this pedia. This is not a big problem, since we can adjust the parameters to disinclude 4. However, doing so would in fact encourage people to use 3 in the place of 4, and you can't even say they did not do anything. --Asakura Nemu (talk) 05:16, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

On Categorization Policies

On the [help template], there is "Categorizing articles" in "Intermediate Editing" (which redirects to a page under U:Nostalgia who is apparently blocked). So I'm dropping a note here to memo that someone has to write a policy document on categorizing.

A few weeks ago I rebased Category:Userbox to Category:Userboxes. So I was thinking Categories that have a noun phrase as the central part of the phrase should be in plural.

I don't think zh has a Categorization policy either. Let's see if we can implement this on en first.

--Nochelux Iquinawir Illumina (talk) 12:23, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

The capitalization policy of categories has no coherence whatsoever. I'll give an example that I noticed.

Category:Pages_with_Materials_Awaiting_Translation follows article naming standards. Then, it claims to have two subcats that just capitalize the first letter without capitalizing the proper nouns: Category:Pages_with_chinese_materials_awaiting_translation and Category:Pages_with_japanese_materials_awaiting_translation. But then we do have another category Category:Pages_with_Chinese_materials_awaiting_translation that does capitalize proper nouns.

So we're essentially following 3 sets of capitalization methods in this simple example. It is urgent that we agree on one capitalization method. This issue was never brought up on zh or jp because they don't capitalize anyways.

--Nochelux Iquinawir Illumina (talk) 08:30, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Actually, a "category policy" or "category guidelines" page wouldn't be a bad idea. Also, I checked, and yes, unfortunately, ZhMGP doesn't have that kind of page either. So, how would that kind of policy or guideline document work? LiaMinina (talk) 20:12, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
In fact there is a loose regulation on categories on Chinese Moegirlpedia, though a clear consensus have yet to be reached after a proposal with really mass discussions on it there.--6116G (talk) 09:28, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Not very detailed & quite idealized; I doubt there would be tens of thousands of CATs on moe zh if this regulation were really carried out. Plus, it doesn't address issues specific to EN, like pluralization and capitalization.
Nonetheless it would be a great place to start from; if we are to write a new guideline we'll try our best to keep it inline with this guideline. Just to ask, do you know how many votes we would need to get for such a guideline in order to send it into effect? There aren't many active editors on EN Moe; most Moe regulators don't visit this remote place that often either.--Nochelux Iquinawir Illumina (talk) 11:02, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
According to regulations on votes and proposal, there seems to be no limits of the least votes, only of the least administrators (including the higher-level bureaucrats) attended of 2, as well as a simple rule of votes pros-over-cons of both mass and admins to pass a proposal. However operators (so-called staff in zhmoe) of the site have been moving into a much more centralized policy since late September, thus admins are now designated by operators instead of voted by mass, and votes of administratiors and patrollers have been doubled to 4 and 2 votes, separately. That means every single administrator holds more votes than us three. I think this template would help you go through most policies more easily.--6116G (talk) 14:42, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Article deletion

Hello. I think that this article should be deleted since it's about a (mostly) controversial topic and people might sense "disturbing racist undertones" there. I believe Moegirlpedia should avoid getting into this type of trouble. Also, I believe that the term "非洲人" originated from the Chinese community and it is mostly used there, and their culture isn't the same as others, so I don't think would fit into the scope of English Moegirlpedia. Chinese Moegirlpedia covers many terms and slang that only Chinese people can understand... LiaMinina (talk) 16:24, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

Article deletion (2)

Hello again... I want this article to be deleted, since too much of the text is copied from TV Tropes (specifically these pages). I believe the Chinese version of the article (from which I made the translation) had the same problem and it was deleted as well, since I couldn't find it. When I checked the article here, I saw that my translated text was too similar to the original articles on TV Tropes. LiaMinina (talk) 15:24, 16 December 2023 (UTC)

In fact you can choose to restructure the content or write the article in a different way to avoid copyright issue (the reason Chinese version deleted), but since the page was created by you I think it's also OK to delete it. 6116G (talk) 16:12, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
