:Now, if I understood your arguments incorrectly, allow me to apologize in advance; do please point it out. BEST ENGLISH TRANSLATION IS EVERY THING CAN BE CUTE

Hi Male Destroyer:

EVERY THING CAN BE Meng\Moe Is Chinese English\Chinglish and you must not translate like that, so the BEST ENGLISH TRANSLATION IS "EVERY THING CAN BE CUTE".

SeerElijah

--SeerElijah 19:27, 24 August 2019 (CDT)

The reason we would like to keep "Moe" is because that its a Japanese word borrowed into Chinese to mean cuteness (specifically, Japanese-anime cuteness). Having so many borrowed word, it should be OK to use that in English too ("Anime" notably is borrowed from Japanese, although it was borrowed to Japanese from English...). Chinese have original words for "cute", and "meng" (萌) did not carry the meaning "cute" originally. It's like the usage of anime (again) and manga in English: used specifically to reference the Japanese animation/comic style despite the presence of the words "animation" and "comic".
(Technically, that would make it Japanese English...)
Also, you may want to call me One-Six instead (I do appreciate that you translated my Chinese user name, but that name really was a mistake if you can tell...)

Sorry, I have some difficulty understanding your argument. Is this what you mean?
  • Most Japanese people do not understand or cannot speak English well.
  • A few Japanese can speak and understand English very well.
  • (from earlier comment) These English-fluent Japanese dislike native English speakers adapting "Anime", "Manga" and other Japanese-English words for Japanese-style animations, etc. and therefore, the usage of "Moe" in our motto is incorrect and should be replaced.
I have two problem with that:
  1. You never provided any sources suggesting that the English-fluent Japanese have any problem with this use of Japanese-English. If we can't find any existence of such oppositions, the opposition might very likely not exist.
  2. This English branch does not serve Japanese speakers primarily. In addition, As you have said, the English-fluent Japanese are few. There is no reason to force all Americans, British, etc. to change their vocabulary for few people, right?
Also, right now you are only arguing for this switch with me. If you want to, try to reach a larger audience and see if you can gain support. As you can see, I am firmly against the switch mainly because you are the only person ever mentioned such issue. Sorry, but right now the majority rules.
