Blue is a character in the Pokémon series developed by Game Freak and Nintendo. He is the rival character in the Generation I games Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version, and of the Generation III remakes Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version. His default name in the Japanese version is "Green", but he is known as "Blue" overseas.
Introduction
He is the default rival character of Generation I (Red/Blue/Green/Yellow) and Generation III (FireRed/LeafGreen), the grandson of Professor Oak, a researcher on Pokémon. After the protagonist gets a starter Pokémon from the professor, Blue also gets one, restraining the attributes of the protagonist. In Yellow Version, his choice is always Eevee. During the journey, Blue always encounters and battles the protagonist. He defeated the Elite Four to become Champion, and yet, he was defeated by Red, who came later than he did. In FireRed and LeafGreen, Blue went to the Sevii Islands to obtain new Pokémon.
In Generation II (Gold/Silver) and Generation IV (HeartGold/SoulSilver), he took over and became the leader of the Viridian Gym, after Giovanni, the former boss of Team Rocket, who left. According to Daisy Oak, even when he skipped work to go explore, the Protagonist happened to meet on Cinnabar Island.
In Generation V (Black 2/White 2), he entered the Unova Pokémon Championship, and the protagonist almost always comes up against Blue.
In Generation VI (X/Y), although he doesn't appear directly, it is mentioned that Blue traveled from Kanto to Kalos to study.
In Generation VII (Sun/Moon), he is invited to head the Battle Tree along with his lifelong rival Red, both of their titles are "Battle Legend".
Personality
Unlike the main character Red, who is a player character (since the player characters don't have a set personality), Blue is extremely rich in character. As far as some works are concerned, he is very enthusiastic about Pokémon battles, and fights with the strongest Pokémon, and is extremely arrogant. Because he is very close to Red in each way, they see each other as worthy opponents (unlike in the anime, where Gary always laughs at and mocks Ash). But for some reason, he is sometimes unusually comical, for example, challenging the protagonist as soon as he appears, and sometimes blurting awkward lines out loud.
In the following days and months, he cast aside his usual cheerful personality after becoming a Battle Legend along with Red. Since Red, as always, is completely silent, it is up to Blue to play the "speaker" role.
