Barry is a character in the Pokémon series developed by Game Freak and its derivative works.

Introduction

Barry grew up in Twinleaf Town, and is Lucas/Dawn's childhood friend. His father is Palmer, one of the Frontier Brains of the Sinnoh region, and Barry wants to be a strong trainer like his father.

Barry has a very impatient personality, and he would always threaten the protagonist with a fine "if he was late". His impatient personality also makes him bump into others, but he often comes up with an idea after that.

Barry likes adventuring, has a strong determination to get things done, but can get easily distracted. He also likes to brag about the strength of his Pokémon.

Alternate names

Barry's original Japanese name is Jun (ジュン), after Junichi Masuda, a producer for most Pokémon games.

  • There was no fixed default name for Barry at first, the anime Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl used the name "Barry", in the game Pokémon Masters, it was officially adopted as his name.
    • In the Japanese version, if the player does not give him a name, his default name in Diamond/Brilliant Diamond will be Pearl (パール), and in Pearl/Shining Pearl, it will be Diamond/Daiya (ダイヤ). In Platinum, it will be chosen randomly.
  • In the Japanese version, his alternate names were taken from developers and programmers:
    • Diamond: Jun (Junichi Masuda), Shigeru (Shigeru Omori), Kouji, Toshinobu
    • Pearl: Hisashi, Sousuke, Akito, Nozomu
    • Platinum: Tetsuji, Hironobu, Yoshinori (Yoshinori Matsuda, lead programmer)
