Notice: About User Group in En/Ja MoegirlPedia
+
Concerning files
En/Ja MoegirlPedia has been maintaining the same user group in Zh MoegirlPedia temporarily,which means that you are seen as a partoller, sysop or bureaucrat in En/Ja if you are partoller, sysop or bureaucrat in Zh, and vice versa.
+
I'm not sure about the current situation of files. It seems to me that they are directly uploaded to the english moepedia page, instead of shared with others language pages in moe commons. Would it be possible if we relink all files into moe commons? Many pictures on pages are unable to be shown. Eg, Girls' Frontline: Springfield.

But we suggest you use the discussion board in En/Ja MGP to apply for your rights if you edit there more.--<span style="text-shadow:dimgray 2px 3px 3px;">red#0066ff</span><span style="text-shadow: green  1px 2px 2px;">(green)</span> 12:58, 29 February 2020 (CST)

Please correct me if I'm mistaken about this.
:Let me rephrase this.

::"English and Japanese Moegirlpedia will be maintaining the same user group status as Chinese Moegirlpedia for now.

::"This means that if you are a patroller, sysop, or bureaucrat in EnMGP or JaMGP, you will also be a patroller, sysop, or bureaucrat (and thus maintain the same user group status and rights) in ZhMGP; and vice versa (ZhMGP patrollers are also EnMGP patrollers, etc.)

::"But we suggest that you use your local discussion boards to apply for these user group rights if you edit more on these locals. (So, use this board to apply for, say, patroller if you edit mostly in EnMGP. )"

::--金萌桥姬, ZhMGP Sysop

Update June 2020: It is now confirmed that the user groups in EnMGP (and JaMGP as well) will soon be separated from those of ZhMGP. It is still unknown when this will be implemented; however, it is assured that the current user groups would not change. That means if you are a patroller in ZhMGP currently, you would still be one in EnMGP and JaMGP. Your role might change depending on your behaviours on these sites later on. --<code style="border:0;background-color:#F2F2F2;color:black;font-family:Courier,monospace;">Moegirlpedia:~ Leranjun$ <span style="color:black">Home</span> · <span style="color:black">Talk</span> · <span style="color:black">Contrib</span></code> 18:45, 17 June 2020 (CST)

Petition for enacting policy
+
--Asakura Nemu (talk) 10:03, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

I hereby petition for the enactment of User:公的驱逐舰/Provisional_Policy/User_group_policy. This is a translated and adapted excerpt from the original Chinese Moegirlpedia policy to be used to govern the actions, responsibilities, applications, and removals of authorities and Good Editor status in English Moegirlpedia, necessary at this time as the user group rights are still linked between ZhMGP and EnMGP. If adopted, this policy draft should be moved to Project:Provisional user group policy and protected.

I hope for unanimous consensus from the current community.

:: Honestly, I don't quite like how current guidelines are named, not to mention the typos and grammar mistakes in the content. Personally, I would like to translate "编辑规范" as "Editing guidelines" or "Content guidelines" (as "Guidelines" in general is more of a category). "MoS" might also be a good alternative, although that's probably better translated into "格式手册". The "Title Naming Standard" is a guideline, not a help article, so it should be in the MGP namespace. Also, I think calling it "Naming conventions" sounds better…--<span style="color:#FD5F8A">Editor</span> <img src="https://commons.moegirl.org.cn/extensions/Avatar/avatar.php?user=Leranjun" style="height:2.5em;border-radius:50%;border:medium solid transparent;border-color:#3EB8FD #FD5F8A;" /> <span style="color:#3EB8FD">Rakuzen</span> 06:47, 16 February 2021 (UTC) edited on 06:52, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

::: Indeed. The guideline system on EnMGP is still not complete and is a little confusing. I've tried to translate the Editing guidelines page (at your preference) on ZhMGP last autumn, but the whole guideline system on ZhMGP was in discussion at that time, so I paused translation. Besides, I found if the Editing guidelines page is imported, there would be a large set of pages to import, which made me can't afford. ;w; --<img src="//img.moegirl.org.cn/common/avatars/572538/original.png" style="width:20px;border-radius:3px;" />GuoPC ☕ 📝 07:55, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Editor Group
I'm here to make a request.

Let's make an editor group.

The subject of this group will be: virtual assistants, or AI (artificial intelligence). Like Siri, Alexa, or Cortana. You understand, right?

I have already created pages for a few AI. Here they are:

::I would contend otherwise... Take File:Springfield_Private_dress.jpg as an example. It cannot be found in commons (yet, since I just uploaded it). P.S., Girls' Frontline: Springfield links to this photo (as can be seen in "File Usage") but the picture cannot be seen on the wiki page. Could you be so kind as to see if it is possible to fix it? --Asakura Nemu (talk) 03:29, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
* Xiao Ai from Xiaomi

I need people who can help expand on those two articles, and then we can get to work with others.
+
:::I can see it now. Perhaps you did not upload this file correctly, or it may be due to network latency.--虚研社箱推人/矢志不渝Cosecant (talk) 06:15, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

(I already suggested this idea on Chinese Moegirlpedia as they have editor groups there.)
+

EnMGP Licenses
+
I've just committed a page Mesugaki <del>so that I can use it in my user page</del>. The problem now is, I suck at translating, and the article is barely readable, let alone coherent. So I stuck a Template:Langproblem in there.

zhmoe:萌娘百科_talk:讨论版/操作申请#EnMGP_Licenses
+
The thing here is, I don't think the template was especially designed for this. That was probably for simple language problems. So I was thinking if anyone could write a template that can be hung to demonstrate that the page was <i>directly</i> adopted from another language version.
Good afternoon!

I have noticed that English Moegirlpedia does not have an image licensing dropdown menu as Commons has... I already made some licensing templates, so I was wondering if EnMGP can have that menu too.
+
I think it could contain the following message and parameters:

::It appears I have not made myself clear. I manually translated this page in concern. What I'm saying is, I am not learnt in translation, and cannot ensure my translations are coherent. The meaning of this template is: the page was translated from another language, instead of being originally writen in the language of this pedia (English). Thus I am discussing the probability of creating a specific template to warn the users: this page was translated, and may have misleading language.

About English name of 我的三体
+
On the Moepedia help template, there is "Categorizing articles" in "Intermediate Editing" (which redirects to a page under U:Nostalgia who is apparently blocked). So I'm dropping a note here to memo that someone has to write a policy document on categorizing.

Coming back to the web for some time, I found that there are many different translations for 我的三体. In the titles in the animation uploaded to YouTube, it is translated to Mine Threebody Animation. In Season1 Episode09, it is translated to Three Body in MC. In English Wikipedia, it is translated to The Three-Body Problem in Minecraft. Other webs' translations are MC Three Body, My Threebody, My Three Body, My Three-Body, etc. Which one should we use?--Tibbie2017tibbie2018 (talk) 16:06, 10 October 2021 )

A few weeks ago I rebased Category:Userbox to Category:Userboxes. So I was thinking Categories that have a noun phrase as the central part of the phrase should be in plural.

I think the title "The Three-body Problem in Minecraft" is OK. And other titles should be mentioned in the Sidebox. --User:禹杨杨 14:59, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

I don't think zh has a Categorization policy either. Let's see if we can implement this on en first.

MoegirlPedia not supporting "background-image" CSS property
+
Category:Pages_with_Materials_Awaiting_Translation follows article naming standards. Then, it claims to have two subcats that just capitalize the first letter <i>without</i> capitalizing the proper nouns: Category:Pages_with_chinese_materials_awaiting_translation and Category:Pages_with_japanese_materials_awaiting_translation. But then we <i>do</i> have another category Category:Pages_with_Chinese_materials_awaiting_translation that <i>does</i> capitalize proper nouns.

As the title mentions, I failed to add "background-image" CSS property in this CSS file and had to comment them. I wonder if MoegirlPedia would solve this problem and support this property in the near future.
+
So we're essentially following 3 sets of capitalization methods in this simple example. It is <b><i>urgent</b></i> that we agree on <i>one</i> capitalization method. This issue was never brought up on zh or jp because they don't capitalize anyways.

:::According to regulations on votes and proposal, there seems to be no limits of the least votes, only of the least administrators (including the higher-level bureaucrats) attended of 2, as well as a simple rule of votes pros-over-cons of both mass and admins to pass a proposal. However operators (so-called staff in zhmoe) of the site have been moving into a much more centralized policy since late September, thus votes of administratiors and patrollers have been doubled to 4 and 2 votes, separately. ::Sorry to speak Chinese on EnMoe, but the translations used in the entries on this site about the Three-Body Problem series, foe example Ai AA and Bai Ice, are Latinized surnames, that is, using Chinese pinyin. But in the current version of Ken Liu's English translation, the Chinese characters in the surname are kept and annotated. In the book, the translation of Chinese names is first family name and then given name. For mixed Chinese and English names, the Chinese surname characters can avoid ambiguity and retain the original features. Personally, I think "Ai AA" and "Bai Ice" should be changed to "艾AA" and "白Ice".

Please correct me if I'm mistaken about this.

Concerning files

I'm not sure about the current situation of files. It seems to me that they are directly uploaded to the english moepedia page, instead of shared with others language pages in moe commons. Would it be possible if we relink all files into moe commons? Many pictures on pages are unable to be shown. Eg, Girls' Frontline: Springfield.

Please correct me if I'm mistaken about this.

--Asakura Nemu (talk) 10:03, 19 October 2023 (UTC)

All files are uploading to the moe commons, you can click "View on MoeGirl Commons" button in file detail page.--虚研社箱推人/矢志不渝Cosecant (talk) 02:47, 20 October 2023 (UTC)
I would contend otherwise...
I can see it now. Perhaps you did not upload this file correctly, or it may be due to network latency.--虚研社箱推人/矢志不渝Cosecant (talk) 06:15, 20 October 2023 (UTC)

Issue has already been resolved on zh discussion board. The en site will retain its separate file system but users can use commons. ----Asakura Nemu (talk) 3:45, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

Proposing a template for translated pages

About translated pages

I've just committed a page Mesugaki so that I can use it in my user page. The problem now is, I suck at translatingEnglish, and the article is barely readable, let alone coherent. So I stuck a Template:Langproblem in there.

The thing here is, I don't think the template was especially designed for this. That was probably for simple language problems. So I was thinking if anyone could write a template that can be hung to demonstrate that the page was directly adopted from another language version.

I think it could contain the following message and parameters:

  • A note telling readers that the page was directly translated;
  • Parameter: language version (choices from zh/ja), defaults zh;
  • Parameter: (optional) extern link to original page or name of original entry
  • Parameter: translation method (choices from 1/2/3/4), where numbers expand as follows:
    1->Manual
    2->Manual with Machine Assistance
    3->Machine with Manual Proofreading
    4->Machine
    I think this could default to 3 or 4, but since Machine translation is not allowed defaulting to 4 might cause confusion.
  • Invitation to edit page

I'm not familiar with templates so I was hoping someone else would be capable of doing this.

Web pages whose entire content is automatically generated by a program are not allowed in zhmoe, maybe you should consider the same standards.--KingChan / Fan of XY Production 02:58, 25 October 2023 (UTC)
It appears I have not made myself clear.
I totally agree disallowing machine translated pages on this pedia. This is not a big problem, since we can adjust the parameters to disinclude 4. However, doing so would in fact encourage people to use 3 in the place of 4, and you can't even say they did not do anything. --Asakura Nemu (talk) 05:16, 28 October 2023 (UTC)

On Categorization Policies

On the [help template], there is "Categorizing articles" in "Intermediate Editing" (which redirects to a page under U:Nostalgia who is apparently blocked). So I'm dropping a note here to memo that someone has to write a policy document on categorizing.

A few weeks ago I rebased Category:Userbox to Category:Userboxes. So I was thinking Categories that have a noun phrase as the central part of the phrase should be in plural.

I don't think zh has a Categorization policy either. Let's see if we can implement this on en first.

--Nochelux Iquinawir Illumina (talk) 12:23, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

The capitalization policy of categories has no coherence whatsoever. I'll give an example that I noticed.

Category:Pages_with_Materials_Awaiting_Translation follows article naming standards. Then, it claims to have two subcats that just capitalize the first letter without capitalizing the proper nouns: Category:Pages_with_chinese_materials_awaiting_translation and Category:Pages_with_japanese_materials_awaiting_translation. But then we do have another category Category:Pages_with_Chinese_materials_awaiting_translation that does capitalize proper nouns.

So we're essentially following 3 sets of capitalization methods in this simple example. It is urgent that we agree on one capitalization method. This issue was never brought up on zh or jp because they don't capitalize anyways.

--Nochelux Iquinawir Illumina (talk) 08:30, 23 November 2023 (UTC)

Hi. Actually, a "category policy" or "category guidelines" page wouldn't be a bad idea. Also, I checked, and yes, unfortunately, ZhMGP doesn't have that kind of page either. So, how would that kind of policy or guideline document work? LiaMinina (talk) 20:12, 23 November 2023 (UTC)
In fact there is a loose regulation on categories on Chinese Moegirlpedia, though a clear consensus have yet to be reached after a proposal with really mass discussions on it there.--6116G (talk) 09:28, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
Not very detailed & quite idealized; I doubt there would be tens of thousands of CATs on moe zh if this regulation were really carried out. Plus, it doesn't address issues specific to EN, like pluralization and capitalization.
Nonetheless it would be a great place to start from; if we are to write a new guideline we'll try our best to keep it inline with this guideline. Just to ask, do you know how many votes we would need to get for such a guideline in order to send it into effect? There aren't many active editors on EN Moe; most Moe regulators don't visit this remote place that often either.--Nochelux Iquinawir Illumina (talk) 11:02, 25 November 2023 (UTC)
According to regulations on votes and proposal, there seems to be no limits of the least votes, only of the least administrators (including the higher-level bureaucrats) attended of 2, as well as a simple rule of votes pros-over-cons of both mass and admins to pass a proposal. However operators (so-called staff in zhmoe) of the site have been moving into a much more centralized policy since late September, thus admins are now designated by operators instead of voted by mass, and votes of administratiors and patrollers have been doubled to 4 and 2 votes, separately. That means every single administrator holds more votes than us three. I think this template would help you go through most policies more easily.--6116G (talk) 14:42, 25 November 2023 (UTC)

Article deletion

Hello. I think that this article should be deleted since it's about a (mostly) controversial topic and people might sense "disturbing racist undertones" there. I believe Moegirlpedia should avoid getting into this type of trouble. Also, I believe that the term "非洲人" originated from the Chinese community and it is mostly used there, and their culture isn't the same as others, so I don't think would fit into the scope of English Moegirlpedia. Chinese Moegirlpedia covers many terms and slang that only Chinese people can understand... LiaMinina (talk) 16:24, 15 December 2023 (UTC)

Article deletion (2)

Hello again... I want this article to be deleted, since too much of the text is copied from TV Tropes (specifically these pages). I believe the Chinese version of the article (from which I made the translation) had the same problem and it was deleted as well, since I couldn't find it. When I checked the article here, I saw that my translated text was too similar to the original articles on TV Tropes. LiaMinina (talk) 15:24, 16 December 2023 (UTC)

In fact you can choose to restructure the content or write the article in a different way to avoid copyright issue (the reason Chinese version deleted), but since the page was created by you I think it's also OK to delete it. 6116G (talk) 16:12, 16 December 2023 (UTC)
