High-speed movement (or super speed) is a common character feature in ACG works, and is generally related to the character's special abilities.

Introduction

"High-speed movement" means moving at a speed much higher than normal human movement.

The "high speed" of high-speed movement has different settings in different works. Some high-speed movements are still visible to the naked eye, and some high-speed movements are invisible to the naked eye.

When the speed is extremely high, it is beyond the ability of the human eye to capture, and it looks similar to the "teleportation" of a space jump.

High-speed movement and teleportation

It should be noted that extremely high-speed movement is sometimes customarily called "teleportation", but "high-speed movement" and "teleportation" are essentially different phenomena.

The former is just being extremely fast. It is a continuous state of action. Although the time is extremely short, it still consumes time and moves along a certain trajectory.

The latter is a direct space jump, that is, disappearing at one location and appearing at another location at the same time, and the time interval can be regarded as zero.

Regarding the ability to teleport, see the article for teleportation for details.

Weaknesses

  • The movement speed is increased, but the reaction speed and dynamic vision may not be improved year-on-year. If the speed exceeds the speed of sound, the ability to perceive the surrounding environment through hearing will be lost.
  • High-speed movement is often accompanied by intense physical exertion and increased body temperature, which makes the high-speed state unsustainable and may even cause damage to oneself.
  • Some ability users need to reduce their armor or even their strength in order to increase their speed.
  • When a person's legs and feet are injured or their legs and feet are restrained or restricted, their abilities may be weakened or even impossible to use.
  • Road surfaces with low friction and slippery soles (such as ice, water, oil-covered ground, banana peels, etc.) may affect the performance of high-speed movement. If you are capable of high-speed flight, you don’t have to worry about this.
  • Some people with this ability (limited by air resistance and other factors) can only reach their highest speed in special environments such as space.

Characters with this ability

Extreme high speed

  • Superman (DC Comics)
    • Overview: As the first superhero, Kal-El, the son of Krypton, has very comprehensive abilities, including high-speed movement, which is comparable to that of The Flash . When moving at full strength, he can induce the relativistic effect and cause time reduction. Slow, stagnant or even backward.
  • Shazam (DC Comics)
    • Overview: Shazam can be regarded as a magical version of Superman. The M in Shazam represents Mercury's speed, mainly the ability to fly at high speeds.
  • The Flash (DC Comics)
    • Overview: There are four generations of The Flash, the most famous of which is the second-generation Flash Barry Allen. As a chronic forensic doctor, Barry Allen accidentally gained the ability to move at high speeds in a lightning accident.
  • Reverse-Flash (also called Professor Zoom) (DC Comics)
    • Overview: Reverse-Flash is a 25th-century scientist who had a morbid respect for the Flash. He collects items related to the Flash crazily and gained super speed by replicating the lightning accidents (but his power comes from the Reverse Speed Force). However, when he traveled through time and space on a cosmic treadmill to meet his respected second-generation Flash, Barry Allen, something went wrong. He came to an era when the second-generation Flash had long been dead. After learning that he was destined to become the Reverse-Flash and was mistakenly killed by Barry, he was mentally confused. He disguised himself as the second-generation Flash to find Wally West, the third-generation Flash at the time, and worked with him to enforce the law for a time. However, he was eventually exposed and the third-generation Flash captured him. Defeated and sent back to the 25th century, he lost his memory of the incident, leaving only his endless hatred for Barry Allen.
  • Quicksilver (Marvel Comics)
    • Overview: A decent character. Quicksilver's high-speed physiological functions give him extraordinary endurance, sensitivity, strength, and speed, and he is difficult to predict or see through the mind. He can easily exceed the speed of sound, or run on water and vertical walls. He once ran from Tibet to Indonesia in seconds, and even circled half of the earth in only 92 seconds. He can also travel through time by vibrating his own molecules, see through, shatter objects, or fly briefly.

He has 1,000 pounds of strength and can exert up to 1 ton of force on his lower body.

  • Hyperion (Marvel Comics)
    • Overview: Belongs to the role of anti-hero. Possessing superhuman strength and stamina, at his peak, he had over 100 tons of strength and superhuman endurance. His highly developed muscle tissue can inhibit the production of fatigue toxins, allowing him to fight non-stop. And it has agility, flexibility and responsiveness far beyond that of humans. With the physiological characteristics of the Eternal clan, his body can collect cosmic radiation energy, and then convert the energy in a method similar to nuclear fusion, giving him various superhuman attributes. He can also manipulate cosmic energy to strengthen certain abilities.
  • Enrico Pucci (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure)
    • Overview: His Stand, Made in Heaven. Essentially, it accelerates the time of the entire universe infinitely by accelerating the gravity of the entire universe. Only he can move normally in the accelerated time. Therefore, in the eyes of other creatures, Pucci has indeed reached the level of high-speed movement.
  • Youmu Konpaku (Touhou Project)
    • Overview: It seems to be a speed achieved purely by relying on superb body skills. It is the fastest on the ground in Gensokyo. This level of speed may have been developed while cleaning the huge courtyard of the underworld countless times. However, generally only when using spell cards (mainly in various FTG), the speed of almost teleportation can be achieved. However, even "World Slash", which consumes only 2, flashes by at a super high speed that cannot be captured by the naked eye. In addition, when using the demon's "Future Eternal Slash", it seems that it can turn back and forth multiple times in the air while still maintaining high speed.
  • Aya Shameimaru (Touhou Project)
  • Summary: Aya's ability is "the ability to control the degree of wind ". He can ride on the wind and have the ability to move at high speeds like the wind.
  • Arquette Brunstadt (Tsukihime)
    • Overview: A vampire who can move at super high speeds simply by virtue of its superior physical strength.
  • Rena Ryugu (Higurashi When They Cry)
    • Overview: Without the help of any abilities, he has a speed that cannot be captured by the naked eye just by his body skills. Entering the cute mode is even closer to superhuman existence.
  • Faiz (Kamen Rider Faiz)
    • Overview: After equipping the SB-555W Faiz Axel and transforming into the acceleration form, he can turn on the acceleration mode and complete what he wants to do at 1000 times the normal speed in 10 seconds. Under high-speed movement, ordinary enemies will completely become targets, and Faiz in this form can use special moves without reloading. However, you must change back to the normal form after 35 seconds of transforming into the accelerated form or 10 seconds after entering the accelerated mode, otherwise it will self-destruct, causing serious photon blood contamination within a three-kilometer radius.
  • Kabuto and others (Kamen Rider Kabuto)
    • Overview: The Kamen Riders and Zerg in this game have the ability called clock up to manipulate tachyon flow to accelerate their own time, allowing them to move at high speeds.
  • Sonic (Sonic the Hedgehog
    • Overview: Sonic can travel faster than light during the CD period, can use light speed attack and light speed sprint during the Sonic Adventure period, can pull the timeline during the Sonic Generations period, and runs out of a black hole in Sonic Power.
  • Kamen Rider Drive Type Tridoron (Kamen Rider Drive)
    • Overview: The special acceleration in Drive's final form manifests itself as teleportation. It is set to accelerate to a level close to teleportation, so it is still classified as high-speed movement.
  • Ultraman Max (Ultra Series)
    • Overview: Max has an ability called "Comet Dash". When used, the body will emit a red light, and an afterimage will be produced during movement. It is mostly used to surprise enemies and move to a favorable position. It can also be used in attacks to increase the impact with super speed.
  • Ultraman Fuma (Ultra Series)
    • Overview: Fuma has a technique called "God Speed Afterimage" (神速残像. By moving at super speed, his afterimage can dazzle his opponents. This skill is the foundation of Fuma 's fighting style. It has many variations and derivatives and can be easily used in conjunction with other skills. Fuma makes full use of it in battle, and it is Fuma's most commonly used skill, even more commonly used than fighting.
