Capcom Co., Ltd. (Japanese: 株式会社カプコン) is a Japanese video game development company, founded in 1979.

History

In May 30, 1939, Kenzo Tsujimoto founded the IRM Corporation in Matsubara, Osaka, responsible for the development and sales of electronic game machines. In May 1981, a subsidiary, Japan Capsule Computer Co., Ltd. was established. in September 1981, the company changed its name to Sanbi Co., Ltd., the head office address was also moved to Habikino City, Osaka.

In June 1983, a subsidiary, Capcom Co., Ltd., was established, responsible for merchandising. "Capcom" is an abbreviation of the name of the parent company, "Capsule Computer", and the name "Suleputer" was used for an outwardly publicized music label each time an album was released. The company's first game product, Little League, went on sale.

In January 1989, the companies were merged, and the new company adopted the Capcom name, the head office address was moved to Higashi-ku, Osaka.

Capcom has enjoyed a very important position in the gaming world with franchises such as Street Fighter, Mega Man, Resident Evil, and Monster Hunter. Known worldwide for making action games, they originally developed games for arcade platforms, they then expanded to multiple platforms such as home consoles, handhelds, and personal computers.
