Disambiguation refers to eliminating ambiguity caused by polysemy or duplicate names in wiki websites. In Moegirlpedia, it can be achieved by adding suffixes to the article name, adding a disambiguation template at the top of the page, and creating a separate disambiguation page.

In general, there is no need to disambiguate content that is not in the scope of inclusion and content that does not currently exist in the wiki. For ambiguous items whose objects are not in the scope of inclusion, it should be judged whether disambiguation is needed according to the actual situation.

  • For example, the characters of works such as Girls' Frontline, Azur Lane, etc., since a large number of character names are taken from well-known real things such as weapons, warships, place names or allusions, so even if there is no ambiguity in the scope of inclusion or the ambiguity item does not exist in the site, disambiguation should be applied, and page names without disambiguating suffixes should not be exclusive.

Article name disambiguation

Suffix disambiguation

When there is a small number of duplicate names, disambiguate by using [thing name (category)].

  • In particular, in the case where things with the same name are derived from the same source, the source article is not changed, and the derived articles are distinguished by the form of subpage or suffix.
    e.g.: Date A Live, Date A Live (song) and Date A Live/Anime
    • If the protagonist of the work and the title of the work have the same name, the character's article plus (character) will be distinguished, and the work entry will not be changed.
      e.g.: Doraemon and Doraemon (character)
    • If the general title of the series of works and the title of a work in the series (usually the first) are the same, the article of the first work should be distinguished by adding the article's release year (19XX, 20XX) or selecting other names, and the general article of the series will be marked with "series name (series)" and redirects "series name series" to "series name".
      e.g.: THE iDOLM@STER, THE iDOLM@STER (2005)
    • When an album and a single have the same name, the album is named with "track name (disc type)", and the included track will not be changed. Included tracks should not be suffixed unless they have the same name as something else.
      Such as: Final_phase, Final_phase (single)
    • Note: Concepts and things that exist in real life, articles that introduce concepts and things themselves, still need to be disambiguated. Add suffixes such as (concept), (plant), (myth) to disambiguate according to the category to which the article belongs.

Prefix disambiguation

When there are many pages that share a name, use the format [work name:thing name] to title a page. Objects that are not duplicated or whose articles do not exist in the site do not need to be titled with a prefix.

    • In particular, the current gacha games and other works with moe anthropomorphism on a large scale, resulting in a large number of repetitive characters and content. Usually, none of these characters can overwhelm other characters, and the popularity of the series is much higher than that of a single character. Therefore, the names of archetypal characters in history, myths, legends, ancient literature, etc. are reserved for archetype articles or disambiguation pages. Characters in works should not be in article names without disambiguation suffixes, even if the archetype's article has not been created. For searching purposes, the prefix [Work title:] is added to guide readers to the appropriate disambiguation page, rather than scattering them through a large number of identically-named pages.

Disambiguation pages

When encountering ambiguity with the same name, it is generally necessary to create a disambiguation page to guide readers. Disambiguation page is a special type of main namespace page, its function is to provide readers with ambiguous items and pages with similar names such as partial duplicate names.
When to create a disambiguation page

A disambiguation page can be created when there is more than one ambiguous item that matches the scope of inclusion, but:

  1. When there are only two similarly-named articles and one of the pages does not exist, there is no need to create a separate disambiguation page for the time being, just add a disambiguation template at the top of the page;
  2. When there is no page for all meanings, there is no need to create a disambiguation page;
Disambiguation page naming
  • Depending on the situation, there are two ways to name disambiguation pages: [Ambiguous words] and [Ambiguous words (disambiguation pages)]. Generally, it is judged as:
  1. There are characters or items with the same name in different works, and the disambiguation page is for the ambiguous word itself, such as Aria.
  2. All meanings are described in #suffix disambiguation, when derived from the same source (excluding real concepts and things, entries that introduce concepts and things themselves), the disambiguation page is an ambiguous word (disambiguation page ), such as Doraemon (disambiguation page).
Disambiguation page content
  1. A brief introduction is allowed on the disambiguation page, and the length of the brief introduction should not exceed 200 words.
  2. The disambiguation term can be:
    1. Ambiguous term
      • The thing page with the exact same name in the Chinese context;
      • Abbreviated or simply referred to as the thing page of that name;
    2. Items with similar names such as partial duplicate names
      • Characters whose surname is this name can directly link to the corresponding surname category, such as linking to Category:Kuroba surname in the page Kuroba;
      • A character going by that name;
      • Other related works.
  3. The meaning item should not point to sites that are not Moegirlpedia or its sister projects;
  4. The meaning item in the disambiguation page should use the original page name, instead of changing the display text with the pipe character, to reduce confusion, such as Yui (Sword Art Online) which should not be displayed as Yui.
Disambiguation templates/categories
  1. {{Disambig}} must be added at the end of the disambiguation page. Using this template will automatically add Category:Disambiguation pages.
  2. Pages allow the following templates:
    • A functional template that allows necessary {{title format}} to modify the page title display;
    • Use of {{jk}} is allowed.
  3. In addition to hidden categories, only the following categories are allowed:

Disambiguation navigation templates

When there is very little ambiguous content, or building a disambiguation page is not suitable for some other situations, you can add a special disambiguation navigation template to guide readers, which is more convenient than jumping to the disambiguation page. A disambiguation navigation template and a disambiguation page do not conflict, many times they will exist at the same time, and the disambiguation navigation template is also likely to lead the user to the disambiguation page.

Disambiguation navigation templates include disambiguation templates and disambiguation page-top templates.

Disambiguation templates

Unless otherwise specified, it refers only to the template {{disambiguation}}.

It uses the traditional page-top template style of MGP, and it is also the most used disambiguation template.

Disambiguation templates should not be used for non-disambiguating navigation and linking.

Top navigation template with disambiguation

The following templates are wiki-like top navigation templates. However, such templates are often used for other non-disambiguation navigation because of their powerful custom extensibility. Therefore, they are not regarded as non-disambiguation navigation, linking, and entertainment. Disambiguates the nav template and is just a generic page-top nav template.

  • {{About}}: This template is compatible with the "Disambiguation" template above, and can also achieve a similar disambiguation navigation effect.
  • {{Distinguish}}: Appropriate for navigation and linking items that are often confused with the corresponding page. Not necessarily for disambiguation purposes.
  • {{Otheruseslist}}: Applicable when there are two or more pages with the same name outside of this page, or often with the same title as this page. It is suitable for dealing with parts of the same work or content from the same source, in the case of a tenth of the number of disambiguation pages. Not necessarily for disambiguation purposes.
  • {{Dablink}}: For more complex cases, use the Dablink template at the top of the corresponding article. Not necessarily for disambiguation purposes.
