A centaur is a chimeric creature of Western origin that combines the upper body of a human (head, torso, and arms) and the lower body of a horse (everything below the shoulders). Often appears in magic and fantasy works. It is also a moe point in the ACG subculture.

Introduction

Centaurs first and mainly appear in Greek mythology. For the most part, they tended to be a savage and violent species: most Greek myths describe them as living only to drink and "kidnap" women, or to attack travelers with arrows. They may have been based on raiding nomads, Greeks who did not often ride horses, or others who saw a horseman for the first time and fell into fear, misinterpreting what they were seeing.

Gradually, the centaurs also acquired the image of a "proud fighting race" and even had the so-called "Oath of Honor", but the overall image was never out of touch with the "backward barbarians who advocate violence". Centaurs are often depicted as a single-sex race composed entirely of males (often used to explain the abduction of women). But in fact, Kentaurides are also mentioned in some ancient Greek and Roman myths. According to Ovid, they were beautiful in appearance.

People and horses are accustomed to moving in groups and are good at using bows and arrows. Even if the upper body is human, it may still be unusually hairy. Their intelligence is no worse than that of humans, but they are still uncivilized. In the " Harry Potter" series, centaurs are magical creatures on the verge of extinction. They are forced to live in the forbidden forest. They hate humans and hate being called "horses". Although they are not absolutely righteous, they also hate evil; They are very sophisticated about the stars and are very good at astrology; most centaurs would consider it very immoral to allow humans to ride on them; in the eyes of wizards, centaurs are still a barbaric, uncivilized and stupid race who can only look up at the stars.

Perhaps the most unique and famous member of the Centaurs is Chiron. He is a learned scholar, proficient in the world. He possesses all martial arts skills and has a gentle personality, making him both a good teacher and a helpful friend. He is well-known in the human world, centaur society, and even the gods of Olympus. Many Greek heroes were his students, such as the demigod hero Achilles in the Iliad. Not only that, he was also a close friend of Hercules , but he was eventually killed by a poisonous arrow in his story. After his death, he became one of the zodiac signs, Sagittarius, from November 23 to December 21st.
