The red panda or lesser panda (Japanese: レッサーパンダ) is a mammal of the Alluridae family.

Red pandas and red panda-based images appear sometimes in ACGN works.

Introduction

The red panda is native to the Eastern Himalayas and southeastern China. Some red panda specimens are also found in some parts of Europe. Its fur is mostly of a reddish, orange, or light brown color, hence its name, and their tails are very big, fluffy and striped, like those of raccoons.

Despite being named "pandas", they actually are not related to the giant panda. But they do eat bamboo.

Red pandas live on forests, and usually sleep on tree branches when tired. When they are cornered and want to appear intimidating, red pandas can stand with their legs and raise their two front paws, while also extending their claws.

Red pandas and human culture

In Nepal, the red panda's fur is believed to repel evil spirits. Some people also make hats with red panda fur, which is said to bring good luck. Nepalese authorities have also initiated many projects to help save and conserve this species; they raise awareness of it and its habitat, and what things can harm it, and help other people find alternatives on how to make income, which up until now has been relying on nature resources.
