A rabbit (Japanese: うさぎ、Chinese: 兔), also called a bunny, is an animal class of the Lagomorphidae family.

Rabbits and bunny girls are prominent in ACG works.

Introduction

A rabbit's most prominent characteristics are their long ears and short tail.

Lagomorphs are a large group of herbivores that are widely distributed on all continents except Antarctica. There is a pair of remarkably long ears, but the tail appears short. Depending on the species, there are a variety of coat colors. Nowadays, people's impression and understanding of rabbits are very biased. For example, rabbits like to eat carrots, and even rabbits with short tails are wrong. The impression that rabbits love carrots comes from "Bugs Bunny", and Bugs Bunny's carrots were originally cigars, but they were replaced with carrots because of the younger treatment. In fact, rabbits don't like carrots. The rabbit tail just looks very short, but it is actually rolled up and hidden under the fur like a tape measure. If you try to pull it, you will find that the length is quite considerable. Rabbits are docile and alert animals that are easily frightened by movement. Rabbits are at the bottom of the food chain among animals in nature, and a variety of carnivores and raptors are their natural enemies, so vigilance is also their innate characteristic to improve their survival rate. Rabbits are highly fertile, which is one of the conditions for the continuation of the population. Domestic rabbits are domesticated from wild rabbits. Among them, the most common and cutest white rabbit is an albino rabbit that has been cultivated after generations of selective breeding. It is characterized by white fur, red eyes and photophobia. The coat color of hares is rarely white, because it is not conducive to survival (but some hares will change to white coats in winter, such as snow rabbits and arctic rabbits).

Rabbits and human culture

  • Rabbit breeding. In some countries and regions, rabbit meat is a delicacy, and rabbit hair is also one of the textile materials.
  • Because of their cute appearance, rabbits are often kept as pets by humans.
  • Rabbit is one of the twelve zodiac signs in China, Japan and other countries, corresponding to the fourth "卯" of the twelve earthly branches.
  • According to legends in China, Japan and other countries, there is a jade rabbit (moon rabbit) living on the moon.
  • In some Germanic mythology, the rabbit was the avatar or messenger of the goddess of spring, the goddess of harvest.
  • "The Tortoise and the Hare" from Aesop's Fables.
  • The "Three Rabbits" in which three rabbits share three ears is a common pattern in Jewish, Christian, Islamic and Buddhist ornaments. The origin is unknown.
  • The Buddhist story collection "Jansheng" has a story about a rabbit throwing himself into the fire to give charity.
  • From the costumes of American casino nightclubs in the 1960s: bunny girl
  • The astronomical constellation "Lepus" comes from Greek mythology. Orion, the prototype of Orion, liked to hunt, so Zeus put a rabbit beside him as prey, which is Lepus.
  • The famous math problem in ancient China is "chicken and rabbit are in the same cage".
  • European and American cultures are convinced that the hind feet of rabbits can bring good luck, so the amulet "Lucky Rabbit Feet" made from the hind feet of rabbits is extended.
  • The cellulose content in carrots is not high enough, and if the rabbit eats it for a long time, it will lead to malnutrition, so please be sure not to use carrots as the staple food of rabbits, and feed it only as an occasional snack.
