Wings are an external organ and one of the moe points in ACG subculture.

Introduction

Wings are a flying organ of living beings. The main function of wings is to provide forward momentum and maintain body balance during flight. Winged creatures in real life are mainly birds, bugs and bats.

In ACG and fiction, humanoid creatures can also have wings.

The wings of a fictional character may not be only used for flying, but may also have some special ability. In addition, wings can add moeness to a moe character, usually growing on the shoulder blades or the lower back.

Wing shape

Winged characters have many types of wings. Judging from their shape, they can be roughly divided into the following categories:

  • The first type is feathered wings: that is, wings with feathers, which are more common in angels, crow tengu, pegasi and other races. This type is the most common one.
  • The second type is bat wings: diaphragm-shaped wings that resemble a bat's, which are more common in succubi, vampires, dragons, and other races.
  • The third type is cicada wings: that is, transparent film-like wings resembling a cicada's, which are more common in fairies/pixies, elves, insects and other races.
  • The fourth type is butterfly wings: that is, film-like scaly wings that resemble a butterfly's, which are more common in fairies/pixies, elves/elementals, insects and other races.
  • The fifth category is special wings: includes wings with special shapes that are not among the above four categories.
