Elementals are personifications or anthropomorphizations of the Western classical elements.

Introduction

An elemental is a concept in fields such as Ancient Greek mythology, European alchemy, and mysticism. It is a primitive philosophical idea of the elements of nature that the world is composed of.

And in legend, classical elements were given anthropomorphism, mystical powers and thought, and a personified image (incarnation). And in the literature and media of later generations, it has become common material.

Representative elementals

The most common elementals are those of the four classical elements (Water, Fire, Earth, and Wind/Air). In the lore of different countries, the names and images of these are also different.

  • Water: Undine, Nymph, Lakshi, Akro
  • Fire: Salamander, Vulcan, Duru, Adesso
  • Earth: Gnome, Pygmy, Maya, Tero
  • Wind: Sylph, Silvestre, Saras, Vento

The major four elementals:

Elemental vs. Fairy

Elementals and fairies are two different concepts.

The similarity between the two is that both can be seen as an incarnation of nature, but there is a clear difference.

Elementals are based on the idea of the classical elements, and the concept of elements were created earlier than the anthropomorphism. They can be seen as a personification of the constituent elements of nature (the world), or as the elements in their own right (their body is also made up of only that element). However, fairies are a personification of a natural thing in nature, not an element itself, it is an equivalent of "life born from natural things".

Moe points and elementals

In modern ACG subculture and moe culture, elementals are also often molded in a moe way and are also a moe point.
