A cyborg (Japanese: サイボーグ) is a "person" whose entire body has been transformed into a prosthetic body. It is also a moe point in the ACG subculture.
Introduction to cyborgs
The English word "Cyborg" is an abbreviation of "cybernetic organism", which actually refers to any creature that is a mixture of organisms and electronic machines.
Cyborgs are also humans who have had most of their entire bodies replaced with cybernetic parts. In many cases, "cyborg" is also used to specifically refer to a modified person whose entire body is made up of cybernetics except for the central nervous system (brain, or spinal cord). In reality, it is impossible to create a cyborg with existing technological means, but in fictional settings, it is possible to have a full-body cyborg.
In different work settings, the materials used for the cyborg's body vary, and the materials used to make different parts of the cybernetic body are also different (for example, the prosthetic bone uses hard materials such as metal, and the prosthetic skin uses soft materials, etc.).
It has to be pointed out that the concept referred to in the original text can include people who have been injected with nanomachines, have had chips installed, or have guns instead of arms. Cybernetics are just the more common form of expression.
Cyborgs and androids
The most fundamental difference between a cyborg and an android lies in the central system that controls the body.
For the cyborgs, it is still the human central nervous system (brain), so the cyborg can still be regarded as a special kind of "human being" (with enhancements) to some extent;
For androids (life-sized, humanoid, human-like robots), it is an artificial intelligence system (or other fictional control system, such as magic drive), so the robot is a "machine" with intelligence.
The intelligence of a cyborg comes from the original human brain, while the intelligence of an android comes from the intelligent program it is given.
The cybernetic body of a cyborg can be equipped with other mechanical equipment (such as weapons) in addition to basic physiological functions.
