Katana is a term used for a class of sharp-edged weapons in Japanese history, a common weapon in ACG works, and a moe point in ACG subculture.
According to their shape, they are divided into daitachi, tachi, katana, wakizashi, tanto, etc.
When we talk about the raw material of a katana, we think of tamahagane. The smelting of this steel can be referred to in Monster Hunter Rise, a rectangular disposable earthenware stove, add mineral sand and charcoal above, and the wind blows from both sides below. This is actually a classical sponge iron, the disadvantage is the extremely high scrap rate. This is why katanas use complex clad steel, processes such as clamping steel are not enough for the material to come together. With the interchange of Japan with China, Portugal and other places, various kinds of imported steel flooded the blacksmithing industry, and tamahagane-forged katanas gradually receded into the background.
In modern Japan, it is believed that forging a katana with tamahagane revives the artistic value of a true katana, and in ACGN works' design, there is no need to stick to such rules that are made for the preservation of historical objects, for example, Jetstream Sam's Murasama.

The katana was made during the end of the Heian period when the Taira family was in power, it was the sword used to protect the young Emperor Antoku. This katana was used at the end of the Battle of Dan-no-ura (the decisive battle of the Genpei War, as recorded by history books). After being chased by Minamoto no Yoshitsune and Minamoto no Yoritomo, Emperor Antoku and his maternal grandmother Nii (from the Heike clan) threw themselves into the water and disappeared from Japanese history books.
After a period of time, the people thought the katana no longer existed, becoming a legend. It was later confirmed to be in the custody of the Ise family, descendants of the Heike clan. Presented to Emperor Meiji at the end of the Edo Shogunate, it became another national treasure, along with the Tenka-Goken.
The historical Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi, Ama-no-Murakumo-no-Tsurugi, and Juken, do not belong in the katana category, as they appeared earlier than katana.
