Tennen boke (天然ボケ, てんねんボケ) is a personality type and a moe point in ACG subculture.

In Japanese anime, certain anime characters will subconsciously make these daze states in many cases. In order to describe them, they are named tennen (天然てんねん, "natural") before the word boke (ボケ, "silly, dumb") creating the term tennen boke (naturally boke). It is generally believed that the term "tennen boke" originated in the 1980s, when Japanese comedian Kinichi Hagimoto first described Jimmy Onishi.

On the whole, the thoughts and behaviors of tennen boke characters are often compared with the innocent character, and sometimes they are in a daze. In addition, tennen boke characters are sometimes naive in their behavior, and are accompanied by ignorance.

In medicine, natural dullness is regarded as a symptom of congenital mental retardation.

Nowadays, in ACG's works, tennen boke has been widely used as a moe point. Most of these characters are slow and innocent, and their actions are quite clumsy.

Most people who are tennen boke seem to be a little unresponsive, but they feel very clumsy in performance, so they are often called baka. Most tennen boke are very slow in love, and there may be things that will happen to them completely forgotten after being clearly confessed. Some tennen boke not only have a big appetite, but also don't get fat no matter how much they eat (like Yui Hirasawa from K-On!). Such girls are mostly good wives and mothers, such as Mikuru Asahina of the Haruhi Suzumiya series, do not understand anything, often hit poles while walking and other small problems, bite their tongue while speaking and other ailments.
