The May Fourth uniform is a type of clothing, and a moe point in the ACG subculture.
Introduction
The May Fourth uniform was a school uniform widely worn by Chinese schoolgirls during the May Fourth Movement.
The main forms of traditional Chinese clothing (Hanfu and the clothing of most minorities) were the garment system (Garments at top and bottom, for skirts it was garment at top, skirt at bottom) and the Wakizashi system (top and bottom in one piece).
Up until the establishment of the People's Republic of China, some of the clothing still shared the basic shape of the top and bottom skirt. Influenced by the ideals of the New Culture Movement and Women's Liberation Movement, among others, Chinese women have risen to the trend of civilized new clothes. In church schools and among some of the girls studying abroad, it became popular to wear a modified blouse with a large lapel coat, and a skirt at the bottom, and it gradually spread out. The hemline of the top was short, usually reaching the waist or the upper part of the hips, with slightly flared sleeves, and the skirt at the bottom evolved from ankle-length to knee-length.
The combination looked clean and crisp, yet beautiful and elegant. It soon spread to most parts of the country, and by the time of the May Fourth Movement, it had become a school uniform for girls that was worn commonly throughout the country.
