Bowl cut refers to a hairstyle which looks like an upside-down bowl. It is one of the moe points in ACG subculture.
Introduction
Bowl cuts are generally made of short hair, and the front is generally made of straight bangs. There is no need to show the hair strands, and it basically does not match with ahoge or ponytails. Short bowl cuts look exactly like an upside-down bowl, with the emphasis being on the bangs, while longer ones are a type of bob cut. But bowl cuts are shorter than bob cuts and the back has a more obvious umbrella shape, and the direction is usually turned up.
Since bowl cuts with short bangs have certain elements of ugliness, adult characters appearing in artistic creations are often used to match the design of comedians or comic relief, while young chraracters with standard bowl cuts are generally supporting characters, and often given glasses to show that the character is smart, which can also bring out the moe in the characters. Slightly looser and improved bowl cuts may appear on the main characters. This change is mainly reflected in the density and line distribution of the bangs, which is close to Japanese and Korean men's short and medium hairstyles in recent years.
