Updo is a general term for a hairstyle, and one of the moe points in ACG subculture.
Introduction
Updo refers to putting hair into a bun, usually requiring longer hair. The loose hair is gathered into a bunch or braided, tightly turned into a ball or ring, and rolled into a prominent bun shape at the back of top of the head, sometimes with hairpins and other ornaments or decorations. Updo is a general term for a large category of hairstyles. There are many ways to do updos, wether simple of complex. In a broad sense, it also includes intertwined buns with a relatively smooth effect. As long as the hair is long enough, anyone can wear their hair in an updo, but is generally female characters who use updo hairstyles.
Some styles of updos are relatively simple. Because the loose hair is gathered, the style will be fresher and look more capable and mature. Some special occasions may also require characters with long hair to tie it in an updo. In ACGN works with a modern backdrop, some mature and capable characters will adopt this type of hairstyle, and long-term updos are usually the preserve of adult women and nobles.
