The KyoAni face is a category of facial appearance features that is a high-level summary of the facial features of a series of animated characters made by Kyoto Animation.

Introduction

As its alias states, the K-On face is generally considered to have originated from the anime K-On!, but the K-On face became popular after the anime Hyouka began airing.

Since the characters in Hyouka clearly have the characteristics of the K-On! style of drawing, netizens have jokingly called the Eru Chitanda in Hyouka a K-On face.

The real "culprits" are supervisor Naoko Yamada and art supervisor Yukiko Horiguchi (the illustrator's name is "Shiromizakana"), the two mothers of the KyoAni face cooperationcombination will produce a large number of KyoAni face characters.

When other works of Kyoto Animation, such as My Ordinary Life', the K-On face is difficult to appear due to the change of production crew and the limitations of the original work. But If it's its work, such as Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions, the light tone face phenomenon is slightly alleviated, but still has the obvious K-On face characteristics.

But the new January 2013 Tamako Market, Naoko Yamada and Yukiko Horiguchi returned strongly, resulting in an unusually strong K-On face in Tamako Market.

The new October 2013 Beyond the Boundary' is supervised by a newcomer Miku Kadowaki, who is a bit of a masterpiece, and the persona seems to be the product of a combination of Hyouka and Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions.

In addition to Kyoto animation, Yukiko Horiguchi also illustrated the light novel Kokoro Connect, so the animation production SILVER LINK. was also successfully infected with the Kyoto face. The female protagonist Iori Nagase, who also has the characteristics of a strong K-On face, is known as "Iori Hirasawa".

In the January 2020 new series 22/7, Yukiko Horiguchi is the character designer, so the characters in the film also have a little bit of K-On face characteristics.
